About

Education

Integrating both academic and psychosocial support in education is widely recognized as critical for women who have come to live in NI from other countries, helping them transition from trauma to stability while navigating new, often challenging, environments. Although many of the migrant women interviewed have received a high level of education in their countries, many have chosen to engage in English language classes. Education acts as a primary tool for social integration, economic mobility and stability in a new country. It aids in navigating new cultural norms as well as helping combat discrimination and engaging social connectedness. In centres like FSWC, education and support programmes also allow women to experience and learn about their new country and understand customs and traditions of women from many other parts of the world.
